The Strain
Our Score

We love it! We HATE it! We love it! We HATE it! We love it! We HATE it! We LOVE IT! Sweet vampire sausage we love to hate, and hate to love this series.

The Strain, for those that do not know, is an American horror-drama series created by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan and is based on a novel series of the same name. The show revolves around members of the CDC, who discover a new disease which soon turns into a plague… a vampire plague. Before long New York City is six foot deep in vampire cac, and the apocalypse begins.

Now the basic premise of the show works for us. We love how the show combines a classic horror element with scientific theory. Vampires are real, but it’s science that will fix the issue, not superstition. We love the vampires. They are uniquely horrific, particularly the elder ones. It’s all Nosferatu on steroids… for the most part. God, we do love them so much!

“The Strain – season 1 trailer.”

But God damn it, we HATE most of the human characters! Now the lead man bounces back and forth. One minute he’s doing what he must to save the world, the next he’s being a wingy little sod! His colleagues pretty much bounce around like him! One moment we like them, the next we wish they would get their throats torn out! (They vex us so much!) Now the vampire hunter, for lack of a better term, and the exterminator he takes under his wing are, to be honest, apart from the vampires, the main reasons we like this show. The show would have worked out a lot better if they had simply focused on these two characters. They would be perfect for a game, comic series, you name it! They alone make the show worth watching as they are willing to do what they must to save the world!

So there are four seasons to this series. So far we’ve managed to kill one. At this point, the show seems to be moving in the sort of direction that we like: blood, death, and vampire destruction! If you like vampires, horror and science then watch this show. Maybe you will be kinder to the ‘heroes’ than us. Maybe not. Regardless, the vampire hunters are worth it alone. Sod humanity worship exterminators!
