“This world is but a canvas to our imagination.” – Henry David Thoreau
It is a sad thing when an artist dies. One often feels that their lives were cut short, that they could have achieved so much more had they simply been given an extra decade or two to create a new form of reality. But then again, artists never truly die, they become inspiration and starlight for those that are still to come.
On the 30th of December, 2019, we were saddened to hear of the loss of one of the greatest futurists of all time, Syd Mead. Mead’s artistic life spanned several decades all of which were enriched by his talents, skill and drive. His visionary use of colours, styles and concepts inspired the makers of quality cinema to recruit him in order to employ his brilliance to create worlds, cities and skies beyond our current reality. Blade Runner, Aliens, Short Circuit, and so many other creations were enhanced by his eye.
This is merely the tip of the creative genius unleashed by this visionary artist. For more amazing works visit SydMead.
Thank you, Syd. Thank you for inspiring us all.
